YMCA-Issue Mailing Envelope, Pvt. Willis W. Wagener to Mrs. J.A. Wagener, Camp Mills, February 4, 1919
This YMCA-issued envelope, postmarked February 4, 1919, was sent by Private Willis W. Wagener from Camp Mills, New York -- a major demobilization center on Long Island -- to his family in Ceres, California. Printed with the YMCA's wartime slogan "With the Colors," the envelope reflects the vital role the YMCA played in supplying stationery to American soldiers, and marks a moment shortly after the WWI Armistice when troops were being processed for return to civilian life.
