This vintage postcard depicts the Holy Infancy orphanage, known in Japanese as Tenshi no Sono ('Garden of the Angels'), operated by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in Kita-Hiroshima, Japan. Catholic missionary orders established schools, hospitals, and orphanages throughout Japan from the late 19th century onward. Its inclusion in a postwar Hiroshima photo album suggests the collector took an interest in local landmarks and institutions in the Hiroshima region, some of which endured or were affected by the events of August 1945.
