WWII Bomb Fuse Safety Pin with Handwritten Mission Tag – Blechhammer Oil Refinery Raid, December 2, 1944

A bomb fuse safety pin, pulled before release and kept as a wartime memento, bears a handwritten tag recording a December 2, 1944 mission against the oil refineries at Blechhammer, Germany, flown at 23,500 feet in bitter cold aboard the aircraft "White Sugar." Blechhammer's synthetic fuel plants were among the most heavily defended and frequently targeted objectives for Allied heavy bombers in the final year of the war in Europe. Project: 218162
