Naval Aviator Edward P. McAleer Aboard His Corsair Fighter, WWII-Era U.S. Navy Photograph
A U.S. Navy aviator, identified in the McAleer family collection as Edward P. McAleer, poses on the wing of his Corsair fighter during World War II. The gull-winged Corsair, powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine, was one of the most formidable carrier- and land-based fighters of the Pacific War, and photographs like this preserved the personal connection between pilots and their aircraft.
