This page from Lt. Wayne E. Bancroft's personal Navy flight logbook records his advanced training flights in the SNJ Texan trainer during October 1949, prior to his service in the Korean War. Logbooks such as this were the official record of every U.S. Navy aviator's flight hours, aircraft flown, and qualifications - including carrier landings and instrument time - and were required to be signed and certified accurate by the pilot and an approving officer. The entries here, largely logged as 'Student' hours, capture Bancroft in the final stages of flight training, just months before American naval aviators would be called into combat over Korea.
