The Scott Field Exchange served as the community store for thousands of airmen, offering retail goods and a soda fountain for off-duty relaxation. Jointly owned by the servicemen themselves, the Exchange returned all profits to the base community in the form of recreation programs and amenities, a model used throughout the U.S. Army during World War II.
