This severely deteriorated negative, part of a collection of Japanese reconnaissance photographs captured during WWII in the China-Burma-India theater, illustrates the fragile nature of wartime film. Fungal growth and emulsion damage -- common in film exposed to tropical humidity -- have obscured much of the original image, which appears to show a figure in a wooded or jungle setting.
