This photograph of the Taj Mahal in Agra, India, was taken by an American serviceman serving in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. Agra was a popular leave destination for Allied personnel stationed in the CBI, and images like this one -- carefully composed across the monument's reflecting pool -- were treasured souvenirs documenting a rare moment of cultural sightseeing amid wartime service far from home.
