Mule Pack Train on a Tree-Lined Road — China-Burma-India Theater, WWII
A column of pack mules winds along a tree-lined road beside an irrigation canal somewhere in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. With few roads capable of supporting motor transport in this mountainous, monsoon-prone region, Allied forces depended heavily on mule and pack-animal trains to move ammunition, food, and equipment in support of the campaign to reopen the Burma Road and supply Chinese and American forces fighting the Japanese in the region.
