Portrait of a Local Woman in Traditional Dress, China-Burma-India Theater, WWII Kotec Collection
This portrait, part of a World War II-era 'folklore' photograph collection compiled in the China-Burma-India Theater, depicts a young woman in traditional dress standing on a fallen log in a cleared woodland setting. Such images were often taken by American servicemen stationed along the Burma Road and CBI supply lines as informal ethnographic records of the diverse peoples they encountered, from Burmese and Yunnanese villagers to various hill-tribe communities. The photograph's warm toning and surface wear reflect its origin as an original wartime negative, more than eighty years old. Project: 218076
