Riverbank Loading Scene with Local Boatmen and Motorized Sampans, China-Burma-India Theater, WWII
This photograph, part of a China-Burma-India Theater collection from World War II, documents local river transport along a Burmese waterway. Small motorized boats, loaded with baskets, bamboo, and household goods, illustrate the vital role indigenous river craft played in moving people and supplies through a region with little road infrastructure, supporting both civilian life and Allied logistical operations in the CBI theater.
