Elderly Burmese Man Carving Wood with Dah Knife, CBI Theater, WWII
A Burmese villager splits and shapes a length of wood using a traditional curved dah knife inside a corrugated-tin shelter. Photographs of local civilians such as this were frequently taken by American servicemen stationed in Burma during the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater campaign of World War II, offering a candid glimpse into daily life along the Ledo-Stilwell Road corridor amid the Allied effort to reopen supply lines to China.
