Young Woman Outside a Shop or Canteen, Myitkyina, Burma - CBI Theater, WWII
Photographed outside a small shop or canteen in Myitkyina, Burma, this young woman represents the local civilian population who lived alongside Allied forces during the China-Burma-India campaign. Captured after Myitkyina's fall to Allied troops in 1944, the town became a critical airbase and supply terminus for the Ledo Road and 'Hump' airlift into China. American grocery packaging visible in the background, including Softasilk cake flour cartons, hints at the flow of U.S. provisions into local commerce as Allied forces built up logistics infrastructure in the region.
