This logbook page documents a month of intense combat flying in November 1944, as a Navy Corsair pilot flew repeated bombing and strafing missions against Japanese garrisons on Jaluit and Wotje in the Marshall Islands, as well as Nauru. These bypassed island strongholds, cut off by the U.S. advance across the Central Pacific, were kept neutralized through sustained air attacks like the ones recorded here, flown in the F4U-1D Corsair fighter-bomber.
