McAleer records forty hours of flight instruction in July 1942, flown in a Luscombe trainer aircraft under the Civilian Pilot Training (CPT) Program. Established by the U.S. government in 1939, the CPT Program trained tens of thousands of civilian pilots, many of whom went on to serve as military aviators during World War II.
