O-1 Bird Dog

The Cessna O-1 Bird Dog was a single-engine, high-wing, two-seat light observation aircraft that served extensively with the U.S. military from the Korean War through the Vietnam War. Primarily used for forward air control (FAC), reconnaissance, and liaison duties, the Bird Dog was known for its excellent visibility, slow flight capability, and ruggedness, making it ideal for spotting enemy positions and directing air strikes. Its distinctive white paint scheme and the call sign “Bird Dog” became familiar sights and sounds over the battlefields of Southeast Asia.
