F-101 Voodoo

The McDonnell F-101 Voodoo was a supersonic twinjet fighter aircraft initially designed as a long-range escort fighter for the Strategic Air Command’s bombers but evolved primarily into a photo-reconnaissance aircraft and an all-weather interceptor. Notable for its powerful engines allowing it to achieve Mach 1.8, the Voodoo set several speed records and served with the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force. While its fighter escort role was superseded, the RF-101 reconnaissance variants provided crucial intelligence during the Cold War and the early stages of the Vietnam War, and the F-101B interceptor equipped with Falcon missiles played a significant role in North American air defense.
